COMMUNIQUES SENT
HOME
A Newsletter will be sent home frequently each year with students
to keep parents informed of happenings at school. Students are
reminded often to see that you receive the newsletters and notices,
but they sometimes forget. Would you please check with them periodically
to make sure they haven’t forgotten to get information to
you? Thank you for your consideration.

GRADING SYSTEM
The school year is divided into four (4) terms of nine (9) weeks
each, with two nine-week periods comprising a semester. During
each term, tests and other appropriate means of evaluation are
used by the teacher to measure the academic progress. The grades
reported at the end of each term indicate the level of achievement
of each student. In addition to report cards, parents are encouraged
to communicate frequently with their child’s teacher regarding
school progress.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Communication with your child’s teacher is vital to his/her
success in school. You will be invited to a teacher conference
after the first grading period. If at any other time you feel
the need for a conference, this may be arranged. We request that
you contact the school at least one (1) day prior to the desired
conference time to make the arrangements.

GYM SHOES
All students will need gym shoes that will be used exclusively
for the gymnasium in order to participate in physical education
classes and inside recesses due to inclement weather.
PERSONAL ARTICLES
Students are discouraged from bringing personal articles
such as cell phones, CD players, handheld video games, toys, games,
expensive watches, etc. to school. The school cannot be responsible
if the articles are broken, misplaced, or stolen.
LOCKER AND DESK INSPECTION
All lockers, desks, tote trays, or P.E. baskets provided
for student use on school premises remain the property of the school
corporation and are provided for the use of the students, are subject
to inspections, access for maintenance, and search pursuant to this
section. No student shall lock or otherwise impede access to any
locker or storage area except with a lock provided by or approved
by the principal or the school in which the locker or storage area
is located. Unapproved locks shall be removed. Lockers and desks
may be searched at such times that there is reason to believe that
the storage area may show evidence of a violation of student conduct
standards or contains anything which because of it's mere presence
presents an immediate danger or physical harm or illness to any
person. Normally the student should be present at a search except
for a general building search.

USE OF TELEPHONE
Students are to use the phone only in case of emergency.
Permission must be granted by a teacher or the secretary before
a student uses the telephone.
CLASSROOM VISITAtiON
Teachers welcome parents who wish to visit their child's classroom.
However, we do ask that any and all classroom visits be arranged
with the child's teacher PRIOR to the visitation time.
PERSONS WISHING TO VISIT CLASSROOMS FOR ANY REASON
AT ANY TIME ARE REQUIRED TO CHECK IN WITH THE OFFICE AND WEAR
A VISITOR TAG.
GETTING A MESSAGE TO YOUR CHILD
The school's primary goal is to educate children. To
help accomplish this it is important that the classroom be interrupted
as little as possible. It is for this reason that your cooperation
is asked for in regards to making sure that when your child comes
to school in the morning he/she is ALREADY AWARE
of any special procedures that are to be followed upon being dismissed
from school that afternoon. Thus, unless an emergency exists, we
ask that you not call the school and ask that your child be given
a message.

PICKING UP CHILDREN FROM SCHOOL
Parents are asked to make every effort to schedule appointments
for their children during non-school time. However, if it becomes
necessary to remove a child from school for a medical appointment,
parents and guardians are asked to "check in" at the school office,
whereupon the child will be called from his/her classroom to sign
out. Children will not be released to any adult other
than their parents or legal guardian without previous authorization
from a parent/guardian.
REQUESTING ASSIGNMENTS FOR ABSENT STUDENTS
In the event of a child’s absence, parents may request
make-up work for the child to complete at home. Please notify
the school before 10:00 a.m. if you would like to pick up homework
on that day. Work sent home will be expected to be returned completed
when the student returns to school. Teachers are not responsible
for providing assignments in advance of student’s absence.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
In order to keep distraction at a minimum during our school day
we ask that you not send balloons, flowers, stuffed animals, etc.
to school on your child’s birthday. These items disrupt
the classroom setting and are very difficult to transport on the
busses. Many times this causes children who don’t get something
special for their birthday to feel left out. With this in mind,
we ask that you not send in these items for your son or daughter’s
birthday.
