FIELD TRIPS

Field trips are an important part of the learning process in elementary school. They provide live experiences in ways that cannot be achieved in the classroom. The faculty will inform parents of each planned field trip for their child, including all necessary details. Some trips will require a small cost to parents. If parents have any concerns about their child participating in a field trip, they should call the school.

If your child does not have a signed permission slip, they will NOT be allowed to participate. Also, if the student’s behavior is questionable leading up to the event, their teacher may not allow him/her to participate.

BUS TRANSPORTATION POLICY

BAUGO COMMUNITY SCHOOLS A large majority of our students ride school buses to and from school. This is a service provided by the taxpayers of the district. The school bus drivers have a tremendous responsibility in transporting this precious cargo. Discipline on the bus is the responsibility of each student and driver.

  1. The bus driver may assign seats, as he/she deems necessary.
  2. Students shall be seated promptly, shall not block the aisle and shall not get up and move once seated - except with the driver's permission.
  3. Students shall not enter or leave the bus until it has come to a full stop and the driver has given permission by opening the door.
         a. Do not stand in the street or roadway while waiting for the bus.
         b. Avoid any unnecessary distracting of the bus driver.
         c. Walk in front of and not behind the bus when crossing the street.
  4. Students shall not destroy or cause damage to the school bus or surrounding property while waiting for the bus.
  5. Students should report to the driver, any damage to the bus when entering or leaving the bus.
  6. The school bus is an extension of the classroom and classroom behavior is expected at all  times
         a. Students shall not be allowed to tease, bully, scuffle, trip, hold, hit or use their hands, feet or body in an objectionable manner.
         b. Profane or indecent language shall not be tolerated. Students shall not use loud, boisterous language.
         c. Indecent conduct shall not be tolerated.
         d. Windows are not to be lowered without the driver's permission. Keep arms and heads inside the bus windows.
         e. Do not throw or pass objects out of the windows.
         f.  No food or beverage shall be consumed on the bus.
         g. Bus Drivers will contact parent/guardian to report conduct infractions.
  7. A student shall be waiting at his/her assigned boarding stop when the bus arrives. The bus driver need not wait beyond the regularly scheduled pick-up time, unless there are visible signs of the student proceeding toward the bus. Students should be waiting at the bus stop, not in the house.
  8. When homes are in close proximity, or as conditions dictate, students may be expected to walk a reasonable distance to board or to reach their homes when unloading.
  9. Buses are equipped with video cameras which are used daily to document safety, bus conduct and identify unacceptable behavior.

The bus driver will report discipline problems to the principal, and the bus driver, student, and principal will hold a conference. Students must bring a note signed by a parent if they are going to ride a bus other than their regular one. Should your child report a bus problem to you, please contact the bus driver before calling the school. The principal usually has not received information from the driver prior to receiving calls from parents. A solution can be more readily attained if problems are handled in this manner.

"School bus incident reports" will be sent to the parents of students who have misbehaved on the bus in order that parents know of their misbehavior. Three (3) such reports during the school year may result in a three (3) day suspension from riding the bus. 10.

Specific questions regarding transportation procedures may be addressed by contacting Mr. Pat Billey, Transportation Director, at 293-8583.

NOT FOLLOWING REGULAR DISMISSAL PROCEDURE

If a child is not going to follow his/her regular dismissal procedure (riding a different bus, getting off somewhere other than usual destination, walking home, etc…) a written note to this effect is to be sent by the parent. It should be shared with his/her bus driver and the teacher. The note should be dated and signed.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION

The importance of emergency information on each student cannot be overemphasized. PARENTS SHOULD NOTIFY THE SCHOOL WHEN THERE IS ANY CHANGE OF RESIDENCE, TELEPHONE NUMBER, OR DESIGNATED CONTACT PERSON. Current business telephone numbers should be provided and updated as necessary in order that the parent may be reached in case of an emergency. Each working parent should provide telephone numbers, and the school should have the name of an appropriate contact person in the event both parents are away from home during the day and cannot be reached.

BUS STOP DISCIPLINE

It is your responsibility, as a parent, to see that your child maintains good behavior while waiting to get on the school bus and after getting off the bus. The jurisdiction of the school begins when a student enters the bus and ends when a student gets off the bus. If problems occur, it is hoped that parents will communicate with each other in order that problems will be solved.
Please be aware that the school cannot be responsible for incidents and problems that occur at bus stops before or after buses pick up or drop off children. Neighborhood disputes will not be settled by school personal.
