HEAD LICE
Head lice can occur in any age group and can spread by
close personal contact of sharing of items such as hats, jackets,
combs, or pillows. Lice can be treated if proper anti-louse preparations
and laundry methods are used.
- 1. Children with head lice are to be picked up by a parent
or
adult delegated by a parent. Written and verbal instructions
will be given to the parent at that time.
- When the student returns to school, he/she needs to be
checked through the nursing office with the parent. Students
need to be free of lice and viable nits before being allowed
back into the classroom
- The school nurse will check the student weekly for 3 weeks.
STUDENT SCREENING
The Baugo Community Schools provides speech, language,
and hearing services under the direction of a speech-language
pathologist (SLP). The SLP directs speech, language, and/or hearing
screenings, diagnostic testing, strategies, and conducts group
or individual therapy classes.
In keeping with IC20-8.1-7-17, the SLP will provide annual hearing
screenings to all students enrolled in kindergarten, first, fourth,
seventh, and tenth grades and any student transferred into the
district. If a student fails the initial hearing screening, a
retest will be scheduled within approximately four weeks.
Screening tests of articulation and language development may also
be given to students at any grade level when referred by a teacher
or parent/guardian for a suspected area of concern.
Students will be taken from their regular classroom for the above-mentioned
screenings. The parent or guardian of students who are discovered
to have a hearing, speech and/or language deficiency will be notified
in writing by the SLP.
No student shall be required to submit to a hearing, speech, or
language screening if written objection by the parent or guardian
is submitted to the proper school authorities and is on file in
the school office. |
